Going down at the end of the week for a few days and hope to get a little fishing in. We will be staying close to the Little Lagoon pass and planning on taking our kayaks down.

I know nothing about this type of fishing so any tips on what, where and how to fish the area would be much appreciated.

I prefer not to fool with live bait unless necessary. I have read that white curly tail and paddle tail grubs on a 3/8 leadhead will catch flounder. If so where and how? Flats, points, dropoffs, in the pass itself? Steady retrieve, drag it along on the bottom or hop it along?

If it’s the pass that’s a few miles west of the city, then you are staying around on of the best fishing spots in the area.
Where little lagoon meets the gulf (the pass I believe you’re referring to) is where I caught my largest Red ever.
Frozen shrimp, circle hook, 3/8 oz weight.
If there’s a sand bar that you can wade to that’s your best bet.

Search this forum for Little Lagoon. It gets discussed on this board several times a year.

As stated, that little pass going under W Beach Blvd is supposed to be hot, Id definitely look around there first.

Jorconalx fished down there this summer but he couldnt catch a piece of pussy in a maternity ward so his report is probably zero.

I "caught" the biggest speck of my life there around 10 years ago. I was using a piece of cut pinfish and had laid the pole on the dock to go help a kid throw a cast net. Next thing I know the pole was in the water and I jumped in after it. I never weighed it but it was 25 inches long. I would guess around 4-5 lbs. Haven't caught another one that size since.

Things like that usually come with a price and mine were y $200 Oakley's I had just purchased two days before

I was there a few days ago. They were catching flounder in the channel near the pass(near the houses, opposite side of the public parking) Current moves through there, so might be difficult, but you can slightly beach your kayak in the shallows. Out towards the lagoon off to the right, they have a small barge beached. just past that is a sandbar good for reds or flounder

I am doing my good deed for the year by giving a Bama fan some fishing advice!
Forget the lagoon. Just fish in the surf for Whitings. Use a small Carolina rig with a small hook. The secret is using a small piece of peeled shrimp. I have been going to Gulf Shores for over 20 years with my family and have used this method with great success. This past summer we caught 70 nice sized Whitings. They are great to eat. Google Whitings if you are not sure what they are. We call them Channel Mullets in LA but they are really not mullets. The are in the drum family. Good luck.

Paddle through to Lake Shelby and fish chicken livers on the bottom to catch a mess of catfish. Be prepared to see gators bigger than your yak if you do.

Thanks for all of your help.

I did a search but only came up with old threads. The one you have linked was back during the spring and I would think that the bite would be a little different early spring vs. late summer, but maybe not.

Thanks again and I will try and brush up on my search skills.

Check out the gulf shores pier fishing forum. Great group of guys on that board, very knowledgeable and it has a great search feature to answer all your questions.

Wadefish on the inside of the pass. Go at night throw topwater in the schools of mullet.

My biggest string of trout...10 weighed 56.4 pounds.

Park your truck at that Park area. You can walk through the pass is only like 4 ft deep. But be cautious you could step in a big hole
