Taking the family to the Island this weekend and plan to do some surf fishing. Seeing if there are any reports and baits to use. Mainly stick with Voodoo shrimp under a cork and don't feel like wasting time getting and keeping live bait fresh, but am open to it. Only have a small window before the kids want to start playing. Any advice/feedback is appreciated.

Staying about a mile before the rocks so could take the golf cart to them.

Crabs were thick. Didn't talk to anyone who surfed fish. Neighbor had 13 specks in boat

I fished out of a boat last weekend. Fished independence reef, queen bess island, the rocks on the backside of the island, and the rocks on the beach side. Caught fish at every spot. The reef was slow. I think it is overfished.

We fished the beach side around midday and only caught lady fish. I talked to a few people who surf fished and they said they did well. One guy said he caught his limit pulling them in 2 at a time using double rig matrix shad ultraviolet.

Good idea to try plastics. Live bait is really expensive now

You can probably get specs by the rocks and crabs have been THICK a lot. Even slow days people are getting 6 dozen in half a day.

I’ll probably give rocks a try one morning, just really didn’t feel like taking that ride and hoped people have been having luck out in the surf not by the rocks
