Every 3 years or so they get bad in the inland parts of the state. Seems like they disappear when the mosquitos show up in force.
Ive used a bottle called Swamp Swatter which is based on vanilla extract. Cant seem to find it in stores, but it used to be at Academy. Something about vanilla they don't like.

I had three bites that swelled up last week like other posters are talking about.

Just field tested the amber romance. Gnats didn't mess with me but just had a dude eyeball me in Walmart.

I've been using the body fantasies vanilla perfume that you can get at Walmart, dollar gentral, etc for the past several years. Guess the secret is out cause you can't find the shite in stores hardly anymore. It works great. Don't know about the Victoria secret stuff. But they say it works.
The first year I remember these things were about 8 years ago. Someone at that time said they came in off the river. How true that is, I don't know. But I know I live near the river and never saw them before, and suffer with these frickers every year since. And yup, everyone I know swells up with big knots from them. Itches like hell. At present, I've got about 20 bites cause I can't find the goddam body spray.

Been using vanilla extract since i was a youngin. Grandpa kept a small bottle in his tackle box during the spring, if the gnats got rough we would put a bit on our hands, face, and neck, even ran our finger thru our hair. They would still buzz the general area but stayed off of us. Has worked all my life. I see some folks mix it in a spray bottle with a couple teaspoon of babyoil, helping of vanilla extract, rubbing alcohol, and water. they will mist themselves and all around them...works that way too.
