I wouldn't waste my time. I would never let a stranger, especially from out of the area, hunt my property. If you offer compensation, that is a different matter.

Another boater was a dumb gen Z-er who though the boat "was like a community boat for anyone to use". People are just too stupid to trust these days with any sort of permissions or privileges.

It's not just that they are stupid but that they feel entitled.

I had a guy stop once and ask if he could fish in my pond. He said he had heard my dad had given other people permission. I told him that I could guaranty that my dad had never done that and that we had two groups of people arrested and prosecuted for trespassing and theft of the fish. No one had permission to fish. We had even had trouble with guys wearing face masks to fish because they knew we had cameras out. They even stole a camera that was chained to a tree.

The guy's comment: "Man, it's a shame that some people will ruin it for the rest of us."

They just don't get it.

This is something to keep in mind AFTER you are given permission. NEVER take people out on the property on paid hunts. I say this from experience. I couple friends of mine had a small but highly productive "lease" many years ago, The price was almost nothing, just basically to cover cost of keeping water on the field. We killed tons of ducks and geese. One guy decided to start taking friends of some of his clients on paid hunts. The landowner got word. Shut us down mid season and would not even entertain leasing it to us again since.

Gained access to a very productive section (ducks, geese and cranes) near Mule Shoe Texas by EXACTLY this scenario. Man owned the land allowed the son of a farmer nearby hunt his place, son was a guide and was told under no circumstance was he to bring any paying customers on the place, son ignored the owner and was kicked off the place. Friend who was starting an outfitting business in Lubbock told me about it, I went and met the owner and gained access for NOTHING other than my assurance that I would NEVER bring anyone on his place without notifying him and under no circumstance would I ever bring anyone who was paying me to do so. Turned into a great relationship....place was ate up with geese, dove, cranes, quail and even Prairie Chickens (protected, could not hunt, still a blast seeing them). There were also ducks most mornings before the geese and cranes got out of bed. There were also deer (mule deer and white tail) and Antelope and I had permission to hunt them also but did not because I wasn't interested. That owner wanted to allow hunting on his place, preferred dealing with one person and could not stand outfitters....was adamant about it because he was of the opinion they had taken over crane hunting in the area and it was not right. Had some good times on that place but the best times was hunting with the owner from the bed of his pickup.....while I would hide and look for blades of grass bent out of shape in fear of flaring cranes he simply backed his truck up to a meager tree line and shot what he wanted as they flew directly overhead LOL,,,,never flared a bird with the truck.

This, though I'm in North Louisiana.

If someone asks me to hunt, fish, etc on my property, even if it is on property that I won't be hunting and/or for a species that I don't hunt, my answer is always no. I've just gotten tired of people acting like I am insulting them because I won't let them use my property for free.

Turkey hunters and pond fishers seem to be the most offended by this.

Will you allow someone to hunt if they offer to pay? I have never done that but I have gotten the impression from some land owners that it was a possibility but I never broached the subject thinking it might insult them. I came VERY close to doing it once close to Bitter Lake NWR. Place was ALWAYS swarming with Snow Geese and the land owner always said his sons might hunt them. He seemed about half pissed off because they weren't hunting it but never allowed me to. I asked him about hunting several times when I was scouting in the area and he always seemed like he was about to say yes and then remembered his sons might want to hunt.

I almost always say no if someone asks me. I have kids and grandkids who occasionally like to hunt my land even though we belong to a good club. Giving permission to one small group has always led to them asking if they can bring others or send others which is even worse. I’ve done paid hunts on my property before for doves which led to a couple of complaints when I wouldn’t allow them to hunt deer too for the $150 they paid for dove. Someone mentioned offering to help which isn’t going to happen. We plant food plots and fix roads with farm tractors and farm implements. That simple looking set up is usually worth $150,000 plus. Frankly unless you are another farmer who I know knows how to maintain and operate it I’m not going to say okay to that either. Liability is another huge issue.

I never let anyone hunt my land, too much liability.
