Generator for home backup spinoff..soft start for a/c?

I'd like to know more about the central a/c unit "soft start" mentioned in the other thread. I have a Champion 5kw generator that runs everything I need when the power is out (gas appliances and water heater). Not necessarily looking to power my own central unit, but my parents' 12kw pto generator won't start their central unit, so this soft start option has me intrigued. All I can find online is stuff pertaining to RVs and such. I know some fellas here have some insight.. thanks for any info!

you sure it was a "hard start" kit they were talking about?

I installed a Micro-air soft start on my 3 ton central unit. Took starting amps down from 72 to 18-20. Paired it with my Westinghouse dual fuel generator and 100 lb propane tank, have central air for a couple days.

Ive been having one(micro air) for my RV for over a year now...but due to procrastination on my part I haven't installed it yet.
Wish I could give you an honest review

There's no reason it wouldn't work. Limited options out there specifically for AC units but I imagine a 230v soft start appropriately sized would work fine.
The other option is a really really big capacitor.
