I don't understand having a pet snake. It can't do anything.

I didn't start this either. Moto jumps in EVERY snake thread on TD and brags about his abilities. He jumped my arse for killing a blue racer and I have taken notice ever since. Noticed a few inconsistencies and pointed out his absence of pics holding a snake. His response was to put my handle on a sign near a snake. I'm just saying pick one mother fricker up if your going to talk the talk. And Moto, I can tell you are knowledgeable about snakes but so am I. I'll freely admit I'm never picking one up
What inconsistencies are you referring to?
For a pic of me handling a snake, you only have to look back two weeks to this thread I started. LINK
And where have I ever bragged? If I post about catching snakes all my life, is that bragging? Or does it just come across as bragging to someone who has a high level of fear of snakes? If a guy on here talks about catching 20 fish on a trip, is it bragging? Or does it only come across as bragging to the guy who only catches 3 fish per trip?

I killed 7 cottonmouths in one morning with a stick.
That's bragging.
That's bragging.

I run from all snakes.

Here's another - I was around 11 or 12 I guess in this pic. Fattest Diamondback Water Snake I ever caught, and I still remember the exact spot I caught it in the 40 arpent in da Parish back in the '70s. And don't get too turned on by those legs - you'll just make it weird.

Here's a pic of a water snake I took yesterday.

Black racers are lightning quick and very aggressive.
After you responded to me with the below comment about a racer not backing down from me

Are you kidding me? I've made a hobby out of catching snakes my whole life, with the majority of them being racers (just because they are more common). They don't back down??? Those things are hard to get close to even when you're trying. They are very fast and the first thing they want to do is get away from you.
Give me a second and I'll find another

I said it right there in the quote. They are lightning quick. That means they haul arse away from you. Which is totally consistent with me saying how nearly impossible they are to catch. As far as aggressive, they are aggressive when you back them into a corner where they can't get away, or they bite the frick out of repeatedly when you grab one. Many snakes can just be grabbed and picked up and will never bite.
The ONLY snakes that I have ever seen that were aggressive in a confrontational manner when they HAD the opportunity to leave were Cottonmouths. I have caught dozens of racers and have never had one act differently than what I described.
Give me some context - describe the situation in which the racer wouldn't back down. Were you chasing it with a shovel in your garage? Sounds more like you're butthurt because I called you out for being one of those people who claim snakes chase and attack them.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

I had a green tree snake someone gave me when I was bout 11. I put him in an aquarium on the back porch and he escaped, couldn't find him. Unfortunately my mom did find him when moving some stuff around on the porch, and while the snake survived I damn near didn't.
I know a few adults who have them and guess I just don't get it.

Touche my friend, you actually posted a pic. That's all I was asking. And to answer your question, I was working in the yard and the racer slithered near me. I gave him a chance to flee but he coiled a bit and raised his head towards me before he got the shovel. I know they travel the same territory quite often and I didn't want a kid to get bit. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Except worse. At least cats will interact with you.

I still want to take that green devil monster he has on an offshore trip. That thing is a guaranteed grouper.
