This is my favorite frog. Got one about two months ago since it comes with a rattle and shorter legs. I have been KILLING them on Toledo with it.

The last two times I've been to Toledo I've caught them all day long on that frog I posted above. One day was sunny, one day was cloudy.
On rivers with muddy water I can usually get bit all day with them also.

It can be a grind, but you can catch a good sack on a frog in the hottest part of the day in shallow pads.

I've said it before, my son caught an 11.6 lber at 12:15 in 4' of water in the pads

I throw ribbits, usually white and buzz them with occasional stops. Spros also work well walking them. You have to give them 2-3 seconds before setting the hook. I throw a regular wide gap with ribbits in 3/0 and only use 85# braid on a 7'6 extra heavy rod.

All the time on a spinnerbait or a buzz bait, not on a frog because I'm throwing it in heavy cover and it'll get hung up and not walk correctly.

Went again this afternoon and fished a frog from 5-7pm. Only caught 4 and the biggest one was prob 3 lbs. Missed 3 other strikes. One of them was hit good but the fish swam towards my boat so the tension wasn't there (I'm still learning)
Also tried a ribbit that my FIL had in his tackle box. It literally laid upside down in the water everytime I threw it in. It didn't haven't water in it and the hooks were set.. Any idea why it did that ha. Did we just get a faulty lure?

You sure it was a Ribbit? This is a Ribbit frog, they usually don't float and just need to be reeled in steadily on top. They work the same whether they're upside down or not.

The frogs and ghosts like rballa posted above used to have a string-like lead weight in them (weight was wrapped around the hooks, close to the crook), sometimes that weight would fall out and the bait would not run upright. Man yall are making me want to go fish some topwater frogs, haven't been in years.

Mostly true. They work the same but get way more noise and surface action if tracking right side up. I find if they aren't hooked correctly they will not track right side up.
After a few strikes it gets harder to get them to stay right side up.

I have one too but I made a couple of changes to it: I cut off about 1/2 of the "leg" length and I bent the hooks out a little so they run along the body and not on top. Helps with the hook set.

Another good one is the Zoom Horny Toad. Would love to be able to fish all of these more often. Actually, I just wish I could fish more often in general.
