It's called fly fishing for green trout, not bass.

The bass in the lakes of south Mississippi are pretty picky about flies. That or I’m just not any good. Clousers, wooly boogers, deceivers haven’t worked for me. I’ve only caught them on poppers.

Can’t speak to river fish but I feel like they’d be more agreessive towards the traditional patterns.

These lake fish just see so many different lures that they can be tough to trick with a fly.

When grandpa taught me how to sue a fly rod he taught me how to use a popping bug and I have fished for bass with my flyrod all my life i won and came in second in a couple company sponsored fruit jar type tournaments and really love it this time of the year. Bass bite top water now and early or late in the hotter months. To me the advantage is you cover the bank much more efficiently and faster since you dont have to real the line all the way in every time. The bait stays in the strike zone more.
