I live in cut off and I have been wanting to take a trip down to Timbalier island to try and catch some gator trout on the spawn, but with all the wind down here I haven't even pulled the trigger. I tried last week to go fish out of leeville around fornation and philo brice islands but when I got out of little lake the bay was white capping and muddy as hell. I did find some clean water on the back side of some of the islands around leeville and lake raccourci but the fish were not cooperating. fished for a couple of hours and only caught one rat red and a couple of white trout. My problem was it was late morning when I went to check things out and there was little to no tidal movement.
I would plan to fish north of fourchon in the coming weeks around the north end of timbalier bay, around deep bayou, little lake, southwest canal, even bayou lafourche around any marsh drains on a falling tide. Wind has been a bitch so far, hell last night at midnight it was blowing down here around 15 mph.

You might find some clean water inside around Philo Brice or further west towards Cocodrie.

What I meant is that you will have to travel to find clean water. Like go west. Away from river. Last time I try to help. Good luck.

What part of Texas? If worried about river water being problem, go to big lake. Be a lot closer
