if I'm fishing in the morning on Sunday or Monday will this be a shite show with the holiday? Visiting the in-laws this weekend around Covington and bringing the kayak.

Caught some bass upstream on the Tchefuncte last summer, but I'm more of trout/red fisher in my homeland so I put the non-resident salt upgrade on the license this time.

Or are there any other spots you recommend leaving out of the Covington/Abita area?

T-rivers will be loud, but the canal won't. If you go as far back as Guste Island bridge or farther, you can set out yo-yo's, trot lines, jugs, and then troll banks trying to catch bass. I have had some luck in there with bass and cats (and gar but they get tossed back). The shallow grass across the river from T-rivers is a decent spot to try but you want catch anything with all the boat traffic.

plenty of boats, just be careful if crossing the river, lots of white sunglass-wearing, cigarette boat driving fools will be out in force.

Only T Rivers canal if you have to fish that area.

Try launching at Menetre / Old Landing in Covington. The launch is at the end of 4th St.

Left from the launch you would be fishing the Bogue Falaya. To the right and around the bend, you will see a huge house, the Abita River runs alongside it. Shoujd be as good or better as the Tchefuncta River for Bass.

Or go fish cane bayou it's not navigable to large boats so will be less traffic. Freshwater at launch salt water at mouth just a few miles down it

Yesterday I floated the Abita in Abita Springs from 435 to the park. The river was up and never had to portage, but no fish. Was a fun float though. Threw plastic crawfish on jig heads, beetle spins, and little inline spinners only seeing some small bream chase.

Last year I fished at the Bogue Falaya Wayside Park in Covington and pulled in a couple of bass. Might get out there either this afternoon or tomorrow morning before heading back.

Thanks for all of the info guys.
