Noticed a few dead fish Monday on the way to work. Many more floating around this afternoon right at the launch going east for about two miles. Simple oxygen depletion? I mean there's a pretty good number of dead fish down there. Can't imagine a fisherman lost his catch but what else would kill them?

Water dropping. Stagnant anoxic water draining from the woods.

There are other factors but that's the main cause. Rain after several weeks of hot, dry weather and falling water levels increasing aerobic decomposition of decaying matter are also depleting the O2 levels.

ETA: This happens every year in Henderson. I just hope it doesn't get too bad.

I was there Sunday before the rain started. I saw one dead bass by the launch and that was it. I'm guessing the rain turned the water over and that's kinda what put the nail in.

One guy on Facebook said he saw mostly carp and goos. If they take the biggest hit I'll be ok with that.

The launch at Butte La Rose last week had a sign that said they would be lowering the water soon. Isnt that often? Perhaps the sign was old?

Not sure what you meant by "Isn't that often?" but I did hear that they opened the gates to the south, therefore the water dropped. I also heard stories of the fish kill but then I saw catch photos from Monday and Tuesday with good numbers of fish.....Like the best reports I've seen this summer. Apparently the kill has hit the carp real bad but not other species so much, if that makes sense.

Way more activity in Henderson and at the launch at Butte La Rose this week with the lower water levels. The bite must be getting better! I can actually see the pilings north of I10. I haven't seen those in 5-6 months. Wasn't sure if its because of a draw-down or just finally water dropping in the Miss River and all over.

I haven't heard of any scheduled drawdowns yet. Must be an old sign. The river has to get low enough before they can schedule one.

Wasn't from me. I only caught 2

And most people I talked to on Sunday weren't doing much better. But there was a lot of boats on the lake. I'm sure at least a few people caught some fish.

Is that the spot?

Or is that where the fish kill is highest?

I went with a buddy from work in his boat and 30 minutes into the trip his trolling motor died. It's almost impossible to bass fish without a trolling motor!
