Try to get some from a crawfisherman. We go through a few hundred lb a day.

Thanks for the heads-up. Not many commercial crawfishermen in the N.O. area. May have to head out to the flooded rice paddies.

Chicot state park rents canoes and has designated canoe access camping sites. Just search "canoe camping chicot" and a few local canoe group articles will pop up explaining how to go about finding the spots. They are marked with signs on the trees and there are maps at the check in station. This is on my to do list after hunting season is over.

Guess I'll ask this here because it's all that I found. I've never camped Louisiana so instead of going up to Kisatchie, since I'm in BR, I was thinking about doing the Atchafalaya Basin. The two that came up were Sherburne and the Wildlife Refuge for camping.

Are these mostly car camping and are there some good trails for walking? The Sherburne one mentioned some primitive spots there, but not much detail on that.

Go to Natchez SP for starters. If you need it rougher than that, try it on the second trip.

Yeah, but that's a couple hours away and AB is 30 minutes. If I'm driving a few hours wouldn't I be better off going to Kisatchie wouldn't I? Honest question, I have no idea and appreciate any advice.

Chicot. Best of both worlds. Has semi-primitive with bathrooms/showers down the road. Great for breaking kids in.

Don’t go to fountainbleau baw. Not primitive at all.

Tickfaw would not be a bad choice either. Fairly primitive (especially this time of year) plus close areas to fish off bank AND a bath house you can get cleaned up- which makes a huge difference with small kids being able to get cleaned up so they can sleep well. Also you can bring the bikes and be able to ride the campground, nature walks, and rent a canoe and go paddle the river.
Very close to BR and good start to see how it goes.

Go to Tunica by Angola and hike the waterfalls. Nice area and less than an hour from BR .
