This is serious bizness. For me to breakdown and go to the doctor means it has gotten bad.

It very might have just started out as a simple sublingual lipoma or keratoma and when you picked it it got infected.
There's all sorts of bacteria that live in the mouth naturally, including strep pyogenes, staph aureus, but none of them are suppose to get in the tongue.
In that area you also have to worry about abscess formation in the sublingual or parotid glands, which is something you really don't want. You think you got pain now? Imagine your jaw or cheeks swelling up and felling like a single touch would pop it.
If it is infected, you need some antibiotics, 7 day course of amoxicillin 500 mg BID. Unless you're allergic to penicillin.
Am I a real doctor now?

That's why I've been drinking so much whiskey lately. I figured a good bourbon flushing for 2 weeks straight would kill whatever it was.
I was wrong.

I will report back tomorrow on their findings.

I'm ready for it to be gone. Every now and then during a violent sneeze, i will kinda bite it or bump it and HOLY shite that sonofabitch hurts.

Hey, there's all sorts of health benefits to drinking whiskey in moderation. (I have to say that for CYA reasons)
Regular grain alcohol can clean out non-flora in the gut and has been shown to reduce cholesterol in the blood.
But as for killing bacteria in the mouth, 100 proof whiskey isn't really good for that. The mouth is already a harsh environment for microbes. Something that is readily consumed won't be very effective as an antiseptic. Why do you think you're not supposed to swallow mouthwash?

I know how that feels . I've had some pretty wicked bumps from biting my tongue . That is very dang painful . Maybe they will have a quick fix for you
Posted on 3/10/13 at 11:06 pm to Rayvegas1484
The worst is burning your tongue.
Posted on 3/10/13 at 11:11 pm to Rayvegas1484
They may be able to help with pain, but stuff in the mouth is tricky to heal.
General principle of wounds is that they need a dry environment with little movement and microorganism exposure to heal properly. Does any of that sound like the mouth to you?

I was joking about the whiskey killing it.
Anything in this mouth better be used to some bourbon. That's for sure.
That's interesting about the cholesterol. That may be a good thing considering I do the Atkins diet and that sometimes leads to high cholesterol in people. I've never had a problem with my cholesterol, nor have I ever had it checked.

You don't eat carbs?
Posted on 3/10/13 at 11:18 pm to El Josey Wales
It's a pain in the arse to have it checked since you have to fast, but anybody over 30 with a family history of heart disease should have it checked at least every five years.
Atkins is good for keeping weight down, and cholesterol only goes up if you eat an abundance of fatty shite. But realistically, its fat people who have high cholesterol, and if you're cutting carbs you're probably not gonna be fat.

Do you at Least make it a mayo sammich ?

I eat a pretty healthy Atkins. I get a little loose on the weekend sometimes though.
I generally eat grilled pork and chicken and steaks. I grill a lot of burgers too. I generally eat a salad and/or green beans with it.
I've been doing the low carb thing for close to 2 years.

I could eat a PB&J every day of my life.
I don't like Atkins as a diet because it doesn't account for active people. Cutting carbs really helps to lose weight since it leads to a decrease in insulin levels and insulin is what stimulates GLUT4 and GLUT2 on adipose cells to take in more lipids leading to more fat.
But carbs are unquestionably the best source of food energy and anybody who is active needs them. In fact, they need to make up at least 40% of their daily calories.
Damn, ya'll got me to put my doctor hat on. Stop it! I wanna shoot and hoist things now.

I find I have way more energy than I used to have.
Not trying to argue the merits of the Atkins diet. I'm worried about my damn tongue and these soldiers with PTSD.
