When is the best time to go Wahoo fishing off the coast of Louisiana? I've been told February is a good month. Anyone got any information?

Fish the 100 fandom line rigs and look for temp breaks in the water. Look for 57F and up. Higher the better.

How far do you run for winter wahoo? Venice best launch spot or will Cocodrie or Fourchon be closer?

Venice of course is about the same distance to run, BUT, 2/3 the way down the Mississippi River. About 30 miles if one runs SW pass. The good side of that is, on your return trip, you flushing out your motors with fresh water.

With the river down, there is less of a problem with floating crap in the river. If one had not ran the river before, I would NOT try running it in the dark the first few trips. Also, at this time of the year, one has to watch out for sea fog once you get out in the gulf. Best to have a good radar out there.

Fourchon is probably best, unless you’re used to navigating the river, then Venice.
