If you want to just lob it around in open water, your rod choice isnt as important.

For better control over the rig, a rod with a max lure weight rating 2oz and up is ideal so you can actually cast it where you want.

7ft medium heavy on 17-20lb fluro

I use the cheap booyah Bama rig or the more expensive Hog Farmer flex mini one

I grab 1/8oz ball jig heads from basspro with 2-3/0 hooks and string them them simple smaller paddle tail baits like the swimming fluke Jr

Some throw heavier jig heads on the bottom wires to have It stay deep and run straight and some people throw a more obnoxious swim bait on the middle, farthest back one

Anywhere bait is schooling is where you need to throw it

They are killer over submerged grass in winter, we throw them on Guntersville.

My personal preference is to throw it on braid. With mono/flouro and that heavy of a lure it stretches too much for me, feel like I miss fish.

You sound like one of those guys who think anybody could just get a LS system and just start killing the bass. It’s not that simple.
I’d go into more detail, but you’re obviously too close-minded about it.

“zero skill” is funny because people did fish before LS.

I got it to help me catch open water bass in the summer and winter. I don’t need LS in the spring and fall.
Btw, I haven’t kept a bass to eat in 25 years.

It’s not fishing and takes zero skill other than video gaming and depleting fish populations. You are literally less than human to me. Zero fishing skills and using video gaming to kill it for everyone else.

I’ll agree with this as you are very accurate about my skill level. I have LVS and I can honestly say it hasn’t given me any advantage to catching bass. Sure sometimes I can see bait alls of
Shad but I think you are right that I’m skill less since I have it and doesn’t help me catch any more fish. What setting is yours on because clearly my LVS is not configured right.

You’re going to see tons of bait balls, but you’ve got to learn to recognize bass behavior in comparison to the other fish that might be on the screen. And there will not be bass on every bait ball you see. In fact it will be a small percentage of bass compared to the amount of bait.

Turn up your gain until the screen starts getting dirty. Turn up your color gain to about 90. You want your screen to be cloudy. Set your distance to 60-70 feet. Whatever depth you’re fishing, set the bottom at twice that…..if you’re in 10 ft of water, set your bottom depth to 20 ft. You’ll get better returns on the screen. Don’t be fooled by trying to see the entire water column on a full screen.

Are you powering with lithium or lead battery? Can you tell the difference between bass, white perch, barfish, etc? Much less catfish, goo, gar, carp. Can you find/see your lure on the screen?

It’s taken me two years to finally be comfortable with IDing fish. And then, they might not bite the presentation. It can be frustrating.

Also, the guys you watch on YT are fishing some of the best waters in the country with tons of fish. A 40,000 acre reservoir is not the same as fishing your typical lake or oxbow.

Watch Garmin Guru on YT for advanced settings.

It’s a work in progress, and people who don’t utilize it don’t realize the painstaking process of using it for bass fishing. Only a few times have I found bass stacked on a point or something and just sat there and caught them. Most times you’re trying to pick off one here, one there.
