I'm from SELA and I want to try for ducks further north on the east zone in a couple of weeks. I don't know public land there but I'm willing to put in the work.

What WMAs and NWRs are worth scouting? Russell Sage, Dewey, big lake? Not looking for secrets, just a first timer asking for friendly advice on where to start. I have a boat with mudmotor and also a pirogue.

I have a cpl of clients that limit out in tensas nwr, but they work for it. Hike in a mile or so to a secret slough and wear em out. Theres wham brake and Russell sage, but cant really comment on them.

Eta: these same guys also chase the big ducks up and down the flooded battures in january and do very well. They tell me you have to be mobile and be willing to put in all morning to get the limits.

Loose lips sink ships. You will have better luck getting into Fort Knox than having any public land duck hunter from Mecca giving up a hint of info but since I live in Houston and have no dog in that fight anymore I will help you.

Wham. Sage. Upper Ouachita. Have fun.

With google earth, you can find sloughs and ponds that look ducky. Just go scout. Boeuf wma, tensas NWr, big lake, wham, Yucatán etc etc. all have places that hold ducks and some have impoundments specifically for ducks.

Just arrived home from a quick trip to the farm and the ouachita is way low as is the red. Will take a ton of water to back up before the refuges up there get good. Better work on your redneck accent.

That's about how many sit on that big floatie out on Bayou Desiard as you cross over the bridge from Cuba to Pargoud in Monroe.
