You guys know of any? Obviously, the IRL and Mosquito lagoon traditionally hold some big girls but I have heard the population is dwindling. Is that true? Also, are there any other areas on that side of the country you guys would recommend? Im pretty much addicted to the Texas coast right now but I wouldn't mind traveling that way once or twice.

I have a place in Stuart, FL and fish there and Ft Pierce in the Indian River lagoon. The trout fishing hasn't been great. The story is that the Corps of Engineers opened the locks from Lake Okeechobee due to flooding and the fresh water killed a lot of the salt water grass. A guide told me there has been grass kills towards Vero Beach also. I saw 5 year old fishing shows where they were catching monster trout within a mile of my place. Not now..However, the snook fishing is great.

The trout fishing on the Carolina's and Georgia is fine, but what's considered big there will probably disappoint you.

Redfish on the other hand....

Virginia and Florida have better trout fisheries if OB is really going to make a trip somewhere.

Texas or Florida are where you really want to go though if you are specifically targeting big trout.

I would suggest listening to the Speckled Truth podcast. Chris Bush is originally from New Orleans but lives in TX now. He has lived in Miss, Florida, & South Carolina also due to being an officer in the Air Force and fishes for trophy trout exclusively now. He has had a bunch of big trout specialists from the east coast on his podcast that will give you a good bit of info on your question. East coast guests have been from Virginia down to Florida.

Has the sailfish bite gone off yet??? Ima live in Stuart someday....hopefully within 7 years. I had a boat down there for several years in the late 90's and early 2000s and It is FANTASTIC. I only get back once every couple of years now but it is my plan for retirement....

Going to texas in January and possibly may for wading trips. I was looking to change it up a bit with an east coast trip but, at the end of the day, it seems like texas might give me my best shot at a 28" plus fish. Thanks for all the replies, fellow OB brethren.

You are the guy who joined 2cool asking about your trip to Matty last year correct? If you want a chance at the big dog, I would say book one the big fish legends from the lower mid coast on down. Watkins, Rowsey, Sweeney, Peterek, Webb, Cisneros, etc. Those guys are true TX legends and know where and how to catch monster trout. If you had just one place to fish, I would choose Baffin in Jan-March.

North Carolina is way different than the other two states. They have big trout.

Virginia has lots of monster trout.

That is correct. Since then, I have fished with Wakins, Sweeney, and Warmke. I am going back with Sweeney in January. I absolutely love fishing with those guys and hope to go with Peterek eventually. It is just hard to break away from Watkins and Sweeney because those are guaranteed good times.
