Pretty rare scenario, but definitely possible. How does a hybrid duck count towards your limit?

4 mallards, 1 pintail, and 1 pintail/mallard hybrid- How would green jeans count this? Surely you wouldn't get in trouble right?

For those outside the state, Louisiana's pintail limit is only 1/person

Do you have 3 mallards and a pintail down? It's a mallard

Do you have 4 mallards and a teal down? It's a pintail

Fed is going write ya up, 99.9% of the time.

His reasoning would be you should have known, and let a judge decide. So $10k later the judge may agree with you, but you should have paid the smaller fine!

I say shoot it and take it back to the truck...but to be technical, i guess you shouldn't shoot the hybrid if you already have 4 mallards and 1 pintail.

An actual hybrid is considered its own species. So it’s just a duck regardless of what you have in hand.

If you are hunting in LA and this is even in the back of your mind as a possibility, you are doing very well.

Our dilemma is trying to pick out the damn dos gris vs ring necks on the fly!!

I haven't seen 4 mallards, much less kill 4 mallards in so long I cant even remember. Silly question for me.

I imagine it would depend on the warden. If they were reasonable it'd merely be the fifth mallard. If they are typical youd probably get a fine at worse.

I don't know how you would know. The ones I have seen are pretty close to both birds in flight and in the hand. Not that I have seen a bunch but I have seen a few here and there.
