I have situation where the duck hunter has a blind every year in front of a mouth to a creek I like to go up into and fish. Ive heard of them shooting at people before, but he has never shot at me. All it takes is some common sense and common courtesy. I always fish there in the afternoon and I always shutdown and make sure there are no ducks close before I get close. I then try to get on by as quick as I can with idle the only option there for stumps, and I dont stop and start fishing until Im a good ways past him. I duck hunt too, so I just treat the fella like I would want to be treated. He usually waves and ask if I had any luck.

If hunting int that situation, I would treat the fishermen just like I would treat another hunter that got too close. You would get shot at. Too many dickwads that want to sleep in then come set up on your spot, or in this case, fishermen who arent good enough to find other fish.

The perches are at the entrance to burned out bridge. From what I'm told anyway. Hitting TB this week, or I'd head out there.

I almost drove to TB and stay the night sat. Didnt feel like it though, was more concerned with locating my fish at IC. Love the fall out there.

There are fish in nearly every piece of water. There may not be ducks on every piece of water. If you take that into consideration, the fisherman should show some courtesy and not disturb the hunter.

fricked up IMO. Have some courtesy and fish where ducks circling the pond won't be right on top of you. 70yds is way to close. I'd keep 200yds minimum

I'd just stay away as a fisherman. yOu can move a hell of a lot easier than they can. And there's plenty of fish elsewhere.

I look at it like this, I wouldnt roll up on another guy fishing and drop the trolling motor, so I wont do the same for people hunting. Plus they have guns, I will go fish somewhere else. I don't fish one spot all day, can always come back to that spot after they have picked up.
I did well on the river Saturday morning. Kept a limit, probably caught 20+. One of the days I'm going to remember you are out there and let you teach me IC.

I think its stupid for a fisherman to get that close to a group duck hunting. Its a safety issue to me. I had fishermen show up around a point a few years ago at 7am on opening day and we were shooting so they knew we were there. I'm thinking there isnt anyone around, they could have easily taken shot to the face if the birds came in at the right angle. Granted the OP was refering to a WMA and its public, but I like my eyesight and I'm damn sure not going to risk it to catch a saltwater choupic or a wormy trout.

What some of you don't seem to realize is some fishermen,me included don't really know how to judge if we're to close or what. Voices as well as gunfire out in the marsh sound really far away and muffled as compared to the woods where every shot sounds like it just fricking went off 10' from you.

Just an idea. Ducks will fly circles around the pond before landing. A 200yd radius would be courteous

My .02 is that duck hunter has a shotgun and fisherman has fishing pole. Shotgun trumps fishing pole. I've never duck hunted at a place where there are people trying to fish at the same time, and I've never gone fishing during duck shooting days.

I have never hunted the marsh, but would lean toward the fisherman just moving on.
If you have trouble with judging distances try a range finder???
Duck hunting public land can be frustrating when someone sets up too close. If I get beat to the spot, I will move on or if the other guy is alone I may ask to hunt with them. It's usually better for everyone.

Fisherman is pushing his luck and being a dick if he doesn't stay at least 200 yards away. There's plenty of water and other days. You don't know who's in that blind. This may be the day they snap. Or he may be an idiot that will sweep you. And he's got a shotgun while you have a fishing pole.
Smart move is just don't go there.

If he let you get 70 yards before letting you know he was there, that's on him.
