This is the first information that any were burned. My older brother lived in New Orleans in the 1960's. There was a guy that owned a service station/tire repair place not too far from where the Superdome is located. My brother told me that the owner traded the new lighter weighted decoys one for one for the heavier decoys that were owned by the now recognized well-known artists.

My brother had a rather nice collection of vintage working decoys that were mostly given to him by boat drivers in the Grand Isle area. They were likely lost during storms. For some reason he stripped the paint off of all of them likely with the idea of repainting them before he passed away. The collection was distributed to his children.

I have an old wedge decoy from Catahoula lake. My buddy's dad gave it to me. It's pretty primitive, but I really like it.

My dad took me to an old family friend in lake Arthur years ago that collected vintage decoys. I'll see if I can find out his name.

Both my knowledge and collection of "western" decoys is rather limited. Most of mine are from SE LA. Robby Price is a teacher at LAHS who works as a guide at a hunting lodge during the season is a collector. He knows an older gentleman who has an impressive collection of decoys and calls that resides in Jennings. I have misplaced Robby's contact number but he should not be difficult to locate.

My Grandfather once had the largest collection of wooden decoys in Louisiana, He was a doctor down in South East Louisiana and would often be compensated in Hand Carved Decoys by some of the greats

I actually carved quite a few with my grandfather a few years back. They look like shite, but had an excellent time with making them with the pops

I and a friend of mine carve and collect decoys from Louisiana. We mostly collect from southeast Louisiana but have a few from southwest Louisiana. Please do not hesitate to contact if you need help identifying anything or have anything for sale/trade.

My friend can probably help offer some identification for your Plaquemines parish decoy.

If anyone comes across any decoys carved by W.C. from the Lafourche area. They were carved by my grandfather. Would be interesting to see how far his work has travelled. Thanks

I find this thread very interesting. It has sparked some interest in an area that I have never paid much attention to. Thanks for posting!

Where is your home? My collection is somewhat modest but I am looking to add a few. Are any of yours available?
