Well as far as cheap fixes, that's absolutely the only thing I can think of. Assuming it worked, the truck would run like it did on day one. Sure the exhaust is restricted more than a straight pipe, but it'd be restricted roughly the same as a clean DPF, which is as good as that truck can do without going with a full fledged delete kit. You'd have to come across some major coin for that.

How much is it to get the DPF cleaned? I know you're looking to get rid of it, but you may not have a choice but to have it cleaned until you can afford a delete.

Hammer, you are correct about the new tier motors. The new regs add at least 20% to the base cost since tier 4 emissions hit in 2011. The really shitty part is that that it devalues the equipment the motors are in; we can't sell this shite used overseas because the rest of the world doesn't use it.
Not sure what you did at LA Machinery, obviously, and not all dealers have invested in the DPF cleaners, it's possible that they didn't, or didn't have one at your location. However, there are basically two ways to meet spec: urea or DPF. The DPF systems are definitely designed to be cleaned externally periodically. We have a few of the DPF cleaners, they are expensive, our on-highway truck customers have to clean the filters. I would follow up with someone at Ford and see what they say.

I'm sure the filter can be cleaned. It may not be designed or intended to, as in they want you to replace it, but somebody out there will clean it. You can probably get a "shade tree" mechanic to do it with an air hose, although it is illegal, extremely toxic, and not as efficient. Just don't try it yourself.

From what I read, you can blow it out with an air hose to get some of the bigger particles out, but where it actually gets clogged(the screen), you cant get it clean w/o heating it in a furnace or boiling it. What the internet says is something about the way it is designed wasnt made for cleaning. I have no idea what that could be, but the internet is always right

Nice 7.3 trucks are going at a higher price then the 6.0s sometimes. When I bought my truck, Don Bohn across the river was trying to sell me a low miles 06 King Ranch with the 6.0 for $8k more than I paid for my truck. II would have probably gotten a 7.3 if there were any nice ones for sale at the time

I just sold my 03 7.3 to a good friend of mine and bought myself a new 6.7. Those old 7.3 are holding value very well. Screw those 6.0s.
