Can you text me sometime? I wanted to touch base before bow season.

Find a combination of food, water, trees, and gravel.

Disc up about a half acre of dirt in a field. Throw wheat on it every day or two for about a month to make sure it's got plenty of seed for your horses. Drag something over it to cover the seed the morning dove season opens so it can grow nice for your livestock. Then, if you don't have anything to do that day, sit down near it and shoot any doves that are trying to pick up the seed you've spent so much time planting.

That is a great idea unless you get caught.

Perfectly legal in AL, as long as you do it right.
Nice. Somebody high up at the Alabama extension service is a dove hunter.

Clybel WMA (Charley Elliot).
What weekend did you go and what field did you shoot? The first few weeks at Clybel were great on the big field as well as on the little field down on the left. Birds were everywhere. Opening weekend was a slaughter. Most everyone limited out on the big field.
If you don't want to be on Public land you can go across the road to Five Springs for a pay shoot. The Spears are first rate people that offer a first rate hunt.
Did you put in for the quota hunt opening weekend?

It's in Texas which means non resident license. I get one because I bird hunt in TX quite a few times each year.
If you want to get the 3 day pass just to come shoot a few with me, come on.
Oh yeah, TX opens Sept. 1st regardless of the day of the week. It just so happens to be a Friday this year if you want to get tuned up the day before LA opens.

I went in late October. I tried the field to the left of the big one and the small one down in the bottom. Is early in the season the best time for clybel?

Yes, opening day is quota only. (8/15 is the application deadline) It is absolute madness but worth it if you are drawn. The next few weekends are pretty good.
I only live about 10 minutes from there and will shoot the first few Saturday's, feel free to shoot me a PM if you decide to go.
