Hang in there brother. This thread has captivated my entire family. My daughter even came down the steps yesterday saying she prayed Trevor and will submit him in the Prayers of the People next week at school.

Thanks man. That warms my heart. Although there is a lot of bullshite and garbage on TV, the world still is full of good people. It just gets masked by all the negative that people love to harp on.

What really baffled the doctors is why he acted the way he did during the delivery. They were monitoring his vitals before and during the section. For some reason he just cut off and his heart quit pumping. The doctor has come to see us everyday and keeps expressing how sorry she is that it happened. She went over the reports 100s of times with everyone in the hospital and they can't find any reason for what happened.
that is interesting...wonder if some sort of flight or flight reaction...best of luck to ya'll

The news wasn't that great this evening. The neurologist came in for her physical exam where she tested a lot of reflexes. She "would have liked to see more from him.". He didn't have a Moro reflex, which is a startle telex that should be present. His gag reflex is also pretty weak. Although the news was rough to accept, she is still optimistic about his future.
Although he is over 7 lbs, he's still premature and needs more time for his brain, muscles, and lungs to develop.
After all the recent goodnews, this was pretty rough to hear.
I know he still has the ability for a full recovery. It's just wait and see know. I still have faith in my little man, and am ready to see him kick this little setbacks butt.

Sorry for the late read of the OP, but I've been down your road before. Yours is tougher though.
Wife had a similar emergency w/ one of our kids...came out still born and took 5 minutes to resuscitate.
Scared out my mind, visiting hospital daily wondering if she was doing better or not. Once progress was made we wondered if there would be neurological problems and there were some early on, but thankfully nothing some minor rehab couldn't help.
My girl is quite healthy after 10 years thankfully and I sincerely hope your son will be too.
It's tough, but it sounds like you have great support so trust it and prayers for y'all and good luck.

Thanks. We've been pulling through. We have lots of family and friends offering support. Someone has cooked for us every night, cleaned our home, walked and fed our dogs, done our laundry, grocery shopped for us, and so much more. We are greatly appreciative of that. We're still exhausted mentally and emotionally, but are chugging a long.
My wife's recovery has been amazing. 4 days in ICU because of the surgery and blood loss, but you can barely tell. She is strong.
We're physically exhausted too, but are getting as much rest as possible.

Hang in there brother! As you well know, this is going to be a roller coaster. You just have to make it through the downs to get to the highs - which is where it will end!

Great news!
Kiss and love on your beautiful wife!

Following your posts every day, hoping and praying for a good outcome. Hang in there, and try to treat all the non-encouraging news as little bumps, not road blocks. He's a little fighter, and will prove this to the world!

Slick,
Remember the rule I learned in the NICU it is almost ALWAYS one step forward and two back. That just seems to be the way it works. I have a lot of other things to say, but I will e-mail you them.
The reflexes aren't the end of the world. It is absolutely amazing what babies can get through. Trevor will get through all of this and so will ya'll. My church and my family continues to pray for you all.

Not much new to report. He did wellyesterdayand they moved him to a normal crib without the heat lamp. They tried to feed him with a bottle Friday night, and surprisingly he latched right in. They'll start feeding him twice a day with the bottle.
Other than that, we're just waiting on him to get stronger and for his brain, organs, and muscles to further develop.

Just got in tonight. Not much new to report other than that he had a good day. We'll have a lot of waiting to do in the future.
He needs to increase his muscle tone, which is achieved by stretching and moving, but they have to keep him swaddled to keep him temperature up, which restricts his movement. We have to work on one thing at a time and give him enough time to do each.
I'm pretty beat. Back to work tomorrow and I have to find some time to do some schoolwork. Case study due Thursday, class with final Saturday, and another case study the following Thursday. Oh well, I'll just have to sack up and knock it out.
