Weird, my yellow lab got tapped on the cheek by a cottonmouth in Kisatchie. Since the snake just struck at him and didn’t attach, I assumed no bite, so just took him home. Next morning his head was swole up like a cantaloupe. Took him to the Vet who told me too late for anti-venom. He came through it ok tho.

One of our labs got popped on the muzzle a few years ago by probably a moccasin. We didnt see it but going by the size of the bite it was a big one. Vet gave him anti inflammatories and DMSO lotion to apply every two hours. He bled all over the place for a couple of days. The vet said he would probably have some necrotic tissue but he healed up fine with no scar. The only lasting effect was the venom dissolved some of the bone under the bite area. Not real noticeable and didnt cause any problems but there was a slight depression you could feel with your fingers.

Your dog is worth every penny you can afford to spend. We owe them. Ignore any naysayers. I hope he is doing better now.
