Well that's a good sign. Could just be a bulging disc vs a ruptured one. Very likely to recover if so but I would start a fund for precaution just in case he were to rupture it sometime in the future . Quicker you get to surgery the better and usually looking about 3-4k. Keep him rested for 4 weeks or so. No matter how good he feels. Still has a delicate injury. Keep on NSAIDs rather than steroids.

Luckily our little guy broke his spine and it fused back together perfectly. The vet said he would always have issues with it and he does.

The cold weather is a real burden on him and he sometimes has trouble controlling when he pees.

We got him a belly band aka diaper so he doesn't piss all over the house and just make sure he is as happy as he can be while he is still kicking.

I'm sure the vet has told you but watch the pups weight, that can make the problem worse.

I didn't read all the replies yet, but I just went through this last year.

Small happy dog, likes to jump on stuff, threw out his back and had a herniated disc. He could sorta walk and by sorta I mean across the room over 20 minutes.

I brought him to the vet and got a few options:
1) some superduper steroids for dogs and a pain pill.
2) if the pill did not work they offered some ridiculously expensive surgery.
3) I was also preparing myself to put him down, because we all know I'm not spending $5k on that little a-hole. I was thinking a Cootkilla special or a few other options.

So we fed him his pills for 2 months and he got better. We stopped the pain pills after a week and try to keep him from jumping but it's tough.

It has been 18 months now and the little ahole is still an ahole but his back is all good now

Had it happen with a dachshund. Put dog diapers on him and gave him anti inflammatory meds for a while. The helped at first but it got worse and he was miserable. Had to put him down and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I cried like a bitch.

Which is perfectly all right either in his scenario or missing a big buck.

Ain't nothing as painful as losing a canine companion.(close family and friends not included that is)

Happened to my mom's chi weenie (chihuahua/weiner dog mix) and he was out for a few days, but then came back fine. However one morning here recently she woke up and he couldn't move his back legs or control his bladder. Waited around for a week or so and went see a specialist in Kenner but ended up having to put him down.

ETA if you're in the Nola area I can get the name of the specialist that came highly recommended.

Thanks again for all the advice, we live in the Monroe area and if he isn't better in quote "ten days" then we may have to decide if we want to take him to LSU-S. His hind legs are simply dead.
Looking at him makes you think its hopeless, but, I have been reassured that there is a good chance he will be able to walk again, just have to wait I guess.
