Does anyone dethatch and level out their St. Augustine yards on an anual basis?

I might go all out this spring trying to fill small/big holes and dips in my front and back yard. Has anyone done this successfully and how did you go about it?

I’m looking at leveling my centipede. Almost everything you see online about leveling is Bermuda but I’m sure it would work on St Aug as long as you only covered a 1/4 to 1/2 inch at a time.

I’ve never had issues with St Aug needing dethatching, are you sure that’s the needed?

After snow last year in South LA a lot of grass died in spots. Left a lot of little craters in my front yard mainly because of how spongy it is.

My backyard is a mess from the two floods in 2016 and the snow. I just need to till it all up and start over at this point.

This, but also make sure you get mason sand or white washed sand. It typically has the least weed seeds and rocks.

Same here, had one quadrant of yard that got spongy, grass grew back in a marbled pattern. Dethatched with a metal rake, wife almost had to bury me in front yard with that rake in my hands

You don't dethatch, at least to the extent of bermuda because of the way it grows. You'll really jack up the roots. Maybe a bit of raking with a leaf rake, but I'd be hesitant to do more than that.

Yea thats kinda what I meant, I have a dethatch rake that's really easy on the grass, gets all the dead grass spots without picking up the roots

Then I'd do that LIGHTLY and bag the clippings a couple times in the spring. After that, mulching blades and regular routine.
