My wife and I had a heated argument on this topic last night. I killed one deer this year and we bought a 1/4 of a cow so the freezer is full. By the wife's logic I shouldn't need to go hunting anymore since there is no point in killing another one. I say keep hunting for the wall hanger and if he steps out you can always find friends or family to hold/give meat. What says the OB?

Simply tell her that you choose to spend your spare time in the woods to get away from her and that killing something is nothing but lagniappe.

Between my dad, brother, and myself we have killed 4 this year. (totaling 415 lbs)

We are only going for wall hangers now. And the meat will never be wasted. Grandparents, aunts & uncles, friends, COLLEGE KIDS

In one day me, my brother and my dad killed a 148 pound doe, 210 pound buck and a 222 pound buck, respectively. That's 580 pounds of meat right there. Plus the others we've killed this year, and we're still huntin for trophies.

Keep hunting. You can always give the meat to friends, family or a feed the poor kitchen.

Many years between my son and myself, hunting both La and TX, we have killed 12-16 deer per year. My immediate family usually can use 3 per year, extended family and friends got 3-4, and the rest went to the feed the poor meals program at our church. No telling how many poor people we fed in North Louisiana.

This is the correct answer. Both my my boys bagged a doe yesterday (1 wt, 1 axis), giving us the 4 we typically take a year. We slept in this morning after watching the Saints win, but if we see a big one tonight, he'll go down.

Brief hijack-both does down at 100 yards with perfect neck shots. No ruined meat there. I'm very proud of my boys!

yeah that is definitely not a problem. I guess I was more getting at whether or not it is moral to keep hunting and killing when you already have more than you need.

This is the 21st century, we hunt for pleasure not for survival. Continue to hunt for pleasure and donate the meat to friends or to kids foster homes or some charitable crap.

Glad my wife is just crazy I am in the same camp as ya'll. I was under the assumption that many charities won't accept wild game because it is an unregulated food. If it weren't my son's 1st birthday I would have went this morning.

Between my parents and myself, we have four full size freezers, plus four small freezers in refrigerators. Full freezers are rare.

as far as a moral issue, as long as you are following the limits set and not damaging the overall population, I do not see a moral delima. Louisiana, Tx, Miss have huge deer populations, at an all time high, despite very liberal limits and seasons.

If I wouldn't have bought 1/4 of a cow from Iowa i could put another 2-3 deer in my chest freezer.

That was my argument as well. They wouldn't issue every licensed hunter 6 tags if there were a shortage of them. Plus I see it as a sport/challenge guess some just see it as killing to kill. BTW I am also fine with that definition of hunting
