They were definitely SCUBA diving. Not freediving.
Diving in excess of 140' can be done and done safely with compressed air. Yes it's dangerous but you need to know your limits

What is the update, please?

Nattylite edited and removed his post on the 9th page. Not sure why.
I think the latest is they are sending down submarine things to look. And the CG called off the search.

They are going to try to use ROVs today to hopefully recover his body

Rok was saying they made two dives to 250 and searched the rig but didn't find anything.

In my opinion, anyone that spearfishes the rigs is on borrowed time. Its addicting and each time you push the limits a little further(deeper, bigger fish, decompress dives, etc). Ask anyone that dives the rigs and they either know or experienced some type of near miss or accident themselves.
mylsuhat..... I see you are a "hell diver" ask some of those boys about mishaps. I know a large number of them.

That characterization seems extreme. Like with anything, people that want to push the limits can, some do - some don't. You can certainly open yourself up to more risk spearfishing, the degree to which depends on how deep you go, how big you shoot and how much you push your bottom time and air supply, etc. Of course, knowing your limits is a fundamental part of "self-rescue" and should be promoted by all divers.

He posted an email a mutual buddy between him and Blake sent him but it had a lot of names and specifics in it that he may not have wanted out right now
Main point was that he hasnt been found and they are going to use ROV's to continue looking

I really feel for his family and freinds, seemed like a good guy. I t strikes home as I took my 13 year old son this past weekend out to shoot his first fish. I think all divers need to learn something from incidents like these.
You can't control narcosis. Nitrogen saturation is off the charts with the physicality of it, and the breath holding, which they are doing to conserve air, can lead to embolism or shallow water blackout. I don't think you can know your limits until its too late!

I don't think you guys should get into this debate here...take it to another thread and let this one serve for people to express condolensces and get updates.
