Crate Training a new golden

Just got a new golden who is 8 weeks old. Brought him home last night. Unfortunately or fortunately every dog we've had before has been crate trained and house broken. This is the first pup we have had to crate train. I have a few questions for those that have crate trained successfully.
1. I've introduced him to his cage by putting treats, etc. in it and he'll go in. Once he goes in, he'll get whatever I put in it and come right back out. Should I just let him go in his cage then close the door behind him? If so, if he whines, do I just let him cry it out?
2. I just have an enclosed carrier type kennel to put him in. If I switch him to the wire kennel....do I essentially have to restart crate training?
3. He falls asleep a lot on the floor then I pick him up and put him in his cage. He seems to go right back to sleep in the cage. Am I messing up by doing it this way?

Don’t let him out if he’s crying as he will associate crying with getting out of the kennel.
Make sure he doesn’t have a lot of space to move around in the kennel as they will designate a certain corner as their potty corner and the rest of the kennel as their bed. They don’t want to go to the bathroom where they sleep so if he has limited space he will be more likely to hold it.
I began training mine by telling her to go in the kennel and she would be rewarded with a treat after doing so. After a few days of doing this she was willing to go into the kennel with no rewards.

You're doing everything fine, but I wouldn't force him into it while you're there except for eating and as a starting place for treats and "love". Moving him there while he naps is fine. That will help. Your biggest challenge will be at night, while he adjust to your sleep schedule. Invest in earplugs, b/c you can't appease him and let him out every time he cries (no matter how brutal it is to hear). He's just got to get through it, or he will associate the crying with being let out.
I hope you don't have him crated for 16 hours per day (night and day). He'll get very bored and tear shite up when he's out. And the style of crate (wire V plastic) doesn't really matter. If you fill it with his stuff and blankets that smell like you, he'll adjust.

Feed your puppy in the kennel too, they'll love the kennel. Definitely limit space to only what they need to lay and turn around or they will go to the bathroom in there. when it's time to go to bed, put them in and let them cry. Enjoy the first few nights of no sleep, it'll be over soon enough.

Leave him in the kennel more than you are but close it.
Absolutely 1st thing you do when you get him out is to march him outside. When he uses the bathroom, really praise him. Play with him for a little bit and put him back in the kennel.

I still have my crate set up for my dog. He is 3 years old. But, I don't even have the door on it. It's a safe spot for him.
