What's your setup?
How do you set up your trot lines on beach?
Crab traps or nets off LA1?

On beach in August.
And don't leave your old bait on the beach.

we would bring poles and a string line to the beach and walk out to the first sand bar and then set the poles in about waste deep water about 60-75 ft apart (assuming you want about 12 drops, tie a string about two feet above the waves where it sags down in the middle and then tie drop strings from there about 5ft apart from each other to avoid tangles. you want the drop lines to reach the bottom plus have about 3ft of slack in them.
bring a #3 metal tub with you to put your net and the crabs in and anything you want to bring along like extra baits and tie a string to it to your waste so you dont have to hold onto it all the time
naturally you cant do this in rolling waves so it should be semi calm day and not too windy or you can try the other side of the island and throw your leftover baits as far out in the water as you can so they dont wash back up on the beach

Thanks for the tips. on average, how far out is the sand bar?

6 ft trawl. Pull it by hand. Make 2 good passes and done in 48 minutes. Spend the rest of the day drinking beer.

sandbar is very close. maybe 30ft. You go about thigh deep then hit the bar.
another thing in august is the same time that those little sting rays spawn. if you got kids I would make them wear shoes.

it moves around but usually you get about waste deep then it gets shallower until your in knee high water again.
sometimes its 20ft out from the beach and sometimes 30
also, very important, wear shoes and drag your feet, dont step, this will prevent you from stepping on a stingray and get stung
