Has anyone built covers for your raised bed gardens? Seems the most popular way is to install PVC hoops. I'm primarily looking to protect from inclement weather.

Any advice/suggestions?

severe weather/tornadoes will wreak havoc on your garden whether covered with PVC hoop or not. I wouldn't worry about it and just be thankful our lives no longer depend on what we can grow ourselves.

I use the 1/2" PVC hoops, and used the pre cut 8' lengths. The galvanized clamps will bend if you hit them with the lawn mower though. I just used wood screws into the side of the raised bed.

I had a lot of trouble finding small orders of shade cloth to use as cover. I ended up using the old netting from around the kid's trampoline. I secure it with some small cable ties and keep them loose. That way I can pull the netting over and back without having to put it in and out of the garage. Mine doesn't look professional, but gets the job done. Hope that helps

I don't have a raised bed garden..merely a cedar slat box on legs for my herbs...but I cover that with a heavy cotton painter's drop cloth (canvas) I got at Lowe's. It works great. I'm sure you can build some form of bracket/skeleton out of PVC to hold it up...

When I lived in north Alabama I really wanted to build some cold frames but I never got around to getting the old windows. Now that I’m on the coast again I don’t see the point.
