Carpet or PVC on trailer boards?

I am fixing up an old boat trailer for a 1436 river boat. I was thinking of putting PVC to make it easier to launch off the road. Just wondering if the edge of the PVC can damage the rivets?

Not a fan of PVC. Done saw two boats launched on concrete.

Never had a problem with carpeted bunks, I’m not trying to fix it if it’s not broke, especially when it comes to a trailer.

I've seen that as well. I already keep it tied when backing down

A small boat like that is no problem just pushing it off a trailer. Carpet. Use SS staples if you can or felt nails.

One of the main reasons I am thinking about it is because I have PVC but would have to buy carpet lol

My dumbass bro-in-law put teflon sheets on his bunks. 1st time at the launch, boat on concrete. had to get another boat to drag it in the water so he could get it back on the trailer.

The boards need changing. I had PVC. Would have to buy carpet. Mainly wondering if it will damage the boat

It won't damage the boat, BUT the carpet needed will cost about $10. If you can't afford that, you shouldn't have a boat. JMO

Mainly dont feel like driving 30 minutes to get it.

Not to hijack but I have an aluminum boat that I fish a lot of brackish marsh area, should I switch to Teflon and remove the carpet from my bunks?
Had someone tell me that a time or two.

See my post about 4 up. If you go to teflon, DO NOT unhook it until the boat is in the water.

I had these on my old trailer that had 2x boards. New aluminum trailer has 4x6 cypress. Ill probably stick with that until they need replacing.
The UBB are slippery, you need to make sure you hook the bow to winch or chain or its going to end up on the ramp

Teflon is the only way to go. last forever

Used 1 1/4" pvc on top of the boards. Had the PVC laying around and if it wouldn't have worked I would just have to pull it off and carpet the boards. Launched the boat in a pond today and it worked perfectly. didn't even have to put the tires in the water or use the winch to pull it out.

I plan on doing just that after I have the trailer redone. The carpet holds water, which drips on galvanized parts, over time it'll eat them up, it has on mine.

Carpet works fine. If you have to change it every 10 years so what.
PVC or teflon or anything else designed to be slippery is terrible. Have to leave the boat hooked up and it won't want to stay on the trailer when you have to pick it up yourself

I leave the boat hooked up anyways. I'm paranoid like that. I have a 1436 and I'm usually launching it off the side of a road, in to a pond, or off of a shitty boat launch. I also pull with a camry so I can't back very far in to the water without my exhaust hitting getting in the water. Slippery works for me.

Carpet is fairly cheap and it works.
Friend of mine had PVC and it rips all the time. I've even seen his boat get stuck to the PVC at the launch. Damn thing had to be rocked back n forth to free it from the deck boards.
