i've always done pretty good with the carolina rig on the bend, my problem is i don't get to go there enough to know where the best ledges and humps are...the next thing i want to do is get out there during the summertime and learn how to fish a spoon offshore

Best Rig Setup 3/4oz.TBend[12-20ft. deep],---1/4-3/8 for pond fishing-3-8ft deep
Main line braided 30lb.approx.
Bead
36in. at TBend,however tag line length varies depending on conditions. Also hook size depending upon bait. I use 2/0 light wire, superlock. Tag line should be mono, not floro.
The key is the rod. 7ft minium designed for Carolina fishing. The Academy model[H2o Express} is my favorite.I have several!!!

That's pretty much how i do it...i like a 3/8oz to 7/16 depending on depth...3/4oz if it's really windy...sometimes i'll use braid, other times fluoro with mono leader... i use a 7'3" MH duckett for the setup...i'll mainly use a green pumpkin zoom lizard
i lost the biggest bass i ever set the hook on in toledo bend on a carolina rig, saw the fish, i tend to underestimate the size of bass and this one went every bit of 10. i was a novice carolina rigger at the time and was using a 1 oz weight, didn't put enough arse into the hookset.

My standard rig is:
3/4 oz. weight
2 glass beads
2/0 or 3/0 offset widegap gam. hook
20 lb. seaguar invizx main line
15 lb. McCoy leader
As far as baits go, I'll throw baby brush hogs, lizards, centipedes, trick worms. But I usually start out with a watermelon candy baby brush hog (depending on light conditions and water clarity). If I'm fishing particularly deep somewhere like Fork or Toledo I'll go to a 1 oz. weight. I'll drag it 90% of the time, but I was on a good pattern of Fork a few months ago where I was actually stroking it in 3-5' of water and getting a reaction bite as the bait fell.

Fishing the boat lane at Siepe. Drag rig into a top. Get hung. Try to break line, top starts coming toward me. I'm dragging this top to the boat when it starts pulling back. Fish gets me loose. Pulls so hard my partner puts the net down declaring it a goo. We both see it flash at the boat as it pulls off. HUGE bass. I was sick.

I have a 7'6" skeet reese carolina rig rod with a lews 6:4:1 Reel . I use power pro 65 pound braid as mainline and sunline sniper 20 pound flouro as a leader . I almost always use a 3/4 ounce weight unless im fishing 20 ft plus and i go to a 1 ounce . ive always had better luck with lizards over brush hogs watermelon red is just about money anywhere you go . I use 4/0 VMC heavy wire wide gap offset hooks . And remember when you are setting the hook with a carolina rig sweep your rod not set it over your shoulder like a texas rig

Yeah gotta sweep setting the hook... Had to get used to that. How do you like that Skeet Reese rod? I've looked at em. It would take me some time to get used to a 7'6" rod. Lol. I use a 7 footer but yeah setting the hook is something you have to get used to.

I guess ive had it so long im used to it . I actually used to use it for flipping texas rigs . Im a Big fan of longer rods tho . I just feel a lot more confident that ill get good hooksets with them .

Practicing for a tourney near 1215. Beating bushes because I was tired of getting beat by the bushes crowd. Getting no bites. Put trolling motor on high to troll from one set to another. Bored. Look at deck of boat. See rod with 3/4 trap. Toss it out across the flat between islands. 8.5. Next cast, 4.8. Leave the lake feeling gooooooood!
Front passes. Go to the same flat 4 different times of the day. Don't get one flipping bite
