It is a ribbon snake and it is in the NOLA zoo

interesting how the garter in that pic flattens his head to make it look triangular. several harmless snakes do this, to look dangerous. Some also rattle their tail in the leaves, pretending to be dangerous.

It's not a ribbon snake. It's a garter snake, although they are closely related. Ribbon snakes have much thinner bodies.
