7mm-08 is more powerful than a 7x57 Mauser, the caliber that W.D.M. Bell killed more elephants with than you will deer, but go ahead and "Man up" with your bigger calibers..:)

Just my 2 cents, but I agree with tomcatrav, for deer inside of 300 yards, the rifle caliber is irrelevant. What I do think matters is accuracy. So assuming the scope and ammo are matched well with the gun, the shooter's ability to put the round on target is the most important variable. So when someone asks me to help them choose a caliber, my first question is, Are you recoil shy? A neck, lung, or heart shot from a .243 is absolutely lethal. But a .300 Win mag gut shot deer may run 300 yards into the brush before dying. So unto thyself be true. Pick a caliber you can hit with and don't let the macho get in the way of being a successful hunter.

.280 falls between 7mm-08 and 7mm Mag. that will be my next one.
Only downfall is its not one of those 3 that are going to be on a shelf in a gas station in the middle of BFE if you need bullets. So I'm recommending it every chance I get in hopes it catches on.
