shawnlsu, when we going shooting man. Do you go to Precision at all? I need to take the new CZ out for some range time.

My wife saw your AR on Friday night, if you are wondering who this is.

I saw somebody mentioned cleaning your gun every week. I know you're supposed to clean them post-firing, but do you need to clean them if they sit for X amount of time?

I clean mine if I get bored. Sometimes I don't clean them after every range session. It just depends.

I'm actually curious as well. My dads been on me to get a CC for the past 8 months or so since his gun craze kicked in. I've decided I'd like a gun for self defense and plan on getting my CC soon.

I was looking at Smith and Wesson, but everybody here is saying glock. May I ask why?

Buckeye, be careful letting us guys (and possibly girls, as well) of the OB color your thinking too much! To me, a cc gun is a different creature than a home defense/truck gun. S&W and Glock both make fine full size and mid size guns for service use. OTOH, I'm personally not a fan of Glocks for concealed carry. Others disagree w/ me, but that's ok. It's America, so our opinions don't have to agree. I like my cc gun to have a single stack/wide magazine, making the gun more comfortable and easier to carry. All Glocks, except the model 36, have double stack mags. Even their compact/subcompact models 26 and 27 have double stack mags; I don't find these guns very comfortable for me to carry; in addition, I don't find the Glocks to fit my hand very well. Admittedly, that's a personal choice, but I can shoot other guns better that fit my hands better.

There are now a bunch of single stack mag handguns that are designed for the cc crowd. Not only should you handle (and preferably shoot) the possible new gun before purchsing it, but you should also try to determine beforehand what a double stack gun feels like w/ cc and whether that suits you.

If you're interested in a single stack handgun, there are a bunch of them, including (I'll just list the 9mm's, but some are in 40 as well):

Kahr CM9
Kahr PM9 (a more expensive version of the CM9)
Kahr CW9 (a no frills, slightly bigger version of the CM9)
Kahr MK9
Kel-Tec PF9
Diamondback DB9
Bersa BP9cc
Kimber Solo
Beretta Nano
Sig 938/290
S&W Shield
Walther PPS
SCCY Industries CPX
Taurus 709 Slim

Good thing this isn't the OT
I'm probably gonna to Nick's in Garyville tomorrow to put a few rounds through the AR. I've been to Precision a few times, let me know when you wanna go, I've got a lot of free time on my hands right now.

This.
Sometimes I get a wild hair (or just get really bored) and take all guns out and clean for hours. Other times it will take a couple range trips before I clean. Only one I clean religiously is my Kimber.

That's what I carry and I love it. I'm in the same camp as TOTH as I don't like a CC gun that takes double stack mags.

Ruger SR9c if you want some versatility. It comes with a flush-fitting 10 round mag and a full sized 17 round mag (for the full sized SR9).

I absolutely love mine. It is shocking just how easy it is for anyone to shoot. I've taken out brand new shooters and they instantly feel at home with it. When I'm planning to be out most of the day, I carry it in my White Hat holster IWB and it is super comfortable. But I'll chock up that comfort to the holster, because it really is that good.

And it can be had for around $400.

I also have a single stack Kahr CM9 that I've run nearly 5000 rounds through. I also love it and it continues to run like a Timex. This gun sits in my car all the time and I'll carry it IWB for short trips here and there. It can also be had for around $400 bucks.

Ruger -> top. Kahr -> bottom

I guess the single stacks are preferred by CCers? Easier to wear?

Well the most vital dimension on a CC gun is width since it'll be in your belt line all day long. Any gun with a single stack magazine will be thinner.

It's a compromise since you get fewer rounds but you also get more comfort.

I've got a few. They are like watches/boots, which one I wear depends on the clothes I'm wearing.
This one works best for me with a tucked in shirt
My favorite but doesn't work real well for a tucked in shirt
Versa Max 2 not as comfortable but works better for me with slacks

ETA: I also use this one for my S&W Airweight when the IWB is not practicle

I'm leaning toward the S&W Shield. What are the pros and cons of 9mm vs .40?
