I’ve never caught one but I’m sure this is pretty big even if he’s long arming.

former world record was caught in that river.

What does a trout that size eat?

bugs, sculpins, other trout.

Got it. Makes sense. I suppose when the trout gets big enough and there is enough other fish to eat then they probably make the switch to dining on neighbors instead of bugs.
I suppose Browns probably eat a wider range of protein than other trout. I've read some articles on fishing for them with flies tied to look like mice.

In the summers they will school up and run the river like a pack of wolves at night.
If you can find them, you can catch some monsters. Use pretty big streamers and a fly rod with enough backbone to cast them.
ETA: I've never gotten into them like that. I've caught some really nice browns but my biggest is maybe 5-6 lbs.
Was with a good friend that caught one that was around 7-8. It was a hoss and was caught on a white whooly bugger.

I've only caught them in smaller waterways in North GA. These are smaller streams so the fish aren't tanks like that or the one pictured in OP

I use to fish the White a lot. Kids have tempered that somewhat.
But the White isn't as easy to fish now. They have minimum flow requirements from whomever. Minimum is like 2 or 3 generators running. You can wade if you really want to but it isn't easy and probably not that safe.

That’s a good un. Hard to tell for sure if it’s a Brown.

Arkansas has some fine trout fishing. Here’s some picks from Dry Run Creek before my son aged out. I’ve never had so much fun watching other people fish.

Nothing more frustrating than fishing Arkansas rivers for big browns and getting skunked and then going at night with a light and seeing all the monsters swimming around laughing at you.

What are you catching those on and are using a 9wt rod?

I was just going by what the comments were on the pic. I have no idea on the correct species.. which is said since I live about 1.5 hours from the red river. Just never tried fishing for trout.

According to one of the local news stations here, it measured 31 3/4 inches. It’s an ugly yet beautiful fish lol

definitely not a rainbow.
the spots on the gill plate is a dead giveaway.

Rick, he used streamers sometimes, but I think all he had back then was a 5wt.
