Thank you very much.

Never been there but I’m supposed to do some scouting there with a buddy before the season.

They don’t rut there.
Just kidding. On a serious note, the rut is around cinco de mayo.
You really want people online to tell you when to go sit in your stand? It’s public land man. Put your arse in a stand and see when the bucks chase does… that’s the rut.

Good luck on your scouting. I found a couple articles on Louisiana Sportsman re: some big bruisers taken off there.
Will go scout in October during squirrel season on the southern end.

Check the rut map
Going by boat>going by atv>going by truck
They feel safe around water
There are many deer to be killed just up the bank of the river

quote:Thanks! We’re going to go in by boat and check some areas of interest from the maps. I usually hunt D’Arbonne NWR, Black Bayou NWR and Russell Sage WMA.
Good luck on your scouting

I made a “wrong” turn coming back from Ruston and drove through a section of the WMA…looked awesome.
God bless you and hope y’all find some spots to set up on for the season.

Don’t go there. Emergency closure of deer season there. LDWF just hasnt announced it yet. Just trying to save you some wasted scouting time. I-20 section is superior anyways

Too late. CWD done cleared the landscape of deers.

Deer in that area have a new disease similar to AIDS and they recently found it’s transmittable to humans

I have family in the LDWF that directly participated in the making of the rut map. He said Boeuf has the highest deer density out of all the public land in the state. Second place isn't close. They kill numbers and quality in there. A guy at works hunts out of a lawn chair out there and kills a stud every year.
Boeuf is the best kept secrete in the state. After my dad passes, we are selling the family camp on our current run down WMA to get a place out there. I know a couple people that made the switch and they say it is like how the place we are at used to be.
For those curious, number 2 is another WMA that doesn't get blasted all over social media and the LA Sportsman. It is basically connected to Boeuf, JC Sonny Gilbert.

Some sites ban people for talking intel on public land.

Tie some orange flagging to your truck or trailer while on the WMA. It lets everyone know you are "cool" with the locals.

A black squirrel tail on your antenna is all you need to be safe.

Worse - Don't hunt their spot that they had for 20 years.

That place will humble you quickly. Those “hills” are steeper than the ones I hunt in northern Missouri.
