Boat title question

This might seem like a dumb question, but I just bought a jet ski from someone in Louisiana. We did the bill of sale with notary. When I go to get my title and mail it in with the application, do I need to surrender my title with the bill of sale and application as well? Thanks

I once bought a car from someone in Texas, that was leased out of Louisiana. The title needed to be signed by Toyota motor Corp person in Arkansas maybe, wherever their headquarters are located. I sent the original title to the address I was given, and it took me three years to get it back. It was a nightmare. The headquarters said Louisiana had it; Louisiana said Toyota headquarters had it. Could never get same person on the phone, always Toyota call center dipshits, or LA dmv dipshits. I would be told they were gonna look into it and call me back in a couple weeks. After a couple months I would call again. I finally got a nice lady from Louisiana DMV to hear my disastrous experience, and she made it a mission to find my title. She gave me her personal cell phone number. 6 months later I finally got a new title for my car. There were so many frickups by different people during this escapade, I got out of all penalties for taxes etc. All because of one lady who cared about doing her job to the best of her ability.

As far as I know you need to submit the title and bill of sale. I forget how you get it back and it does seem a little worrisome.

Did the previous owner not have the title in hand? If you are picking up a title with the previous owner’s name on it, that will have to be signed and notarized. That old title is turned in and you will get your new title in a few weeks.
Check on the LDWF website under boating. They have a pretty good FAQ section.

Thank you, yes they did have title in hand and it was notarized. I just wanted to make sure I surrendered the title as well before I mailed it in.
