2001 Yamaha 60HP 2 stroke. Boat starts up right away and idles fine and is peeing strong. As soon as I go to get on step, boat kicks back and overheat alarm comes on. come back to an idle and alarm goes off. Motor never kills or stops peeing. What could this be?

Change impeller, housing and thermostat. Also could even be the sensor in the block.
The peeing (telltale) doesn’t really guarantee cooling .

Had the same thing happen but with my V6. After a lot
Of dealing with water pumps and sensor,.
Turned out the water jackets in the heads were coroded
Enough to not allow water to cool the motor. Had them cleaned and a good idle time in vinanger/ water in a barrel. Fixed it. I would try the vinanger water first
,Take the thermostats out for that.
