Boat batteries

Ok I have my two cranking batteries connected in parallel.
My test meter shows both around 13 volts.
Last weekend after running all morning they wouldn't start the boat and we had to move a trolling battery in place to crank up and come in.
Got back in and cleaned one of the terminals that had a little corrosion and connected it back to the motor and it cranked.
Put them on a battery charger anyway and left them on all night. The battery charger never showed them fully charged. I have idiot lights on the charger instead of a meter.
What do you think? Are the batteries not taking a charge? Was my problem simply the corrosion on the post? Can I get a good voltage reading and still not have the juice to crank it?
Any input will be appreciated.

2018 I got them from West Marine.

It is possible have 12+ volts, but still not enough amps to crank. May have a weak, or dead cell...

P = I^2 x R
P = E x I
E x I = I^2 x R
E = I x R
p = watts
E = volts
I = amps
R = resistance
If your voltage is fine, you either have too high resistance (corrosion) or too low amperage (bad cell)
since you cleaned the terminals and they wont fully charge, probably a bad cell. toss it and get a new one

I had a battery last week that wouldn't charge, I cleaned the clamps on the charger, then it charged up fine.

Piss me off.
I can leave my lawn mower, four wheeler, or any tractor on the farm sitting for 3-4 months and 75% chance it will crank when I get it out.
There is 0% chance my boat will keep a charge while sitting longer than a month. Every damn year

Did you smell anything when you were charging them? Like a rotten egg smell?
Batteries going bad, will usually give off a bad smell.

Vented batteries will always smell of sulfur when charging, does not mean it is bad.
Also feel if the battery is warm when charging. If it's not warm, it isn't even trying to charge.
That's what tipped me off last week when the charger said my battery was unchargable. I felt it, cold, cleaned clamps and reattached and it charged up fine and fished for hours with it over the weekend.

yeah, maybe a little, but when it's strong, you know.
I've got 3 semis, with 4 batteries each, it's a big expense. I hate to walk up to a truck and smell that smell.
Another thing is, when you have multiple batteries, One bad one, will ruin the others. I don't know, if it's because the charging system will over charge, or because the bad one will keep pulling the others down. Probably a combination of both. Anyhow, if I get one gone bad, and they are over a year old, I just go ahead and replace them all, At least I might dodge a service call, to get the truck jumped in the middle of nowhere.

I had 2 batteries from West Marine that did the exact same thing to me. I bought them last year around July. They are the flooded type. Charger was doing the exact same thing. Never fully charging and then it was telling me one was bad. Tried adding distilled water. Same result. I brought them back to West Marine since they were still under warranty and replaced them with Duracells from Sams. So far so good withe the Duracells.
