I have caught Spots with almost no patch on the tongue.

Tongue is rough..That's the easiest way i have found.

Also mouth is smaller and the back has some small gold spots on it.

Easiest...spots have a brown spot on their tongue

Rub their tongue...if there is a patch of teeth it's a Kentucky, if not it's a largemouth.

Could be tougher...Here's a stringer from the Colorado River below Austin, TX.

There are 3 different species of black bass on this stringer (they all taste about the same btw)
