Youth 870 is pretty cheap. I'm not sure theres a more reliable shotgun.

Youth shotguns are short and easy to handle. Good option.

If you are a baller, look at Benelli M2, M3, and M4

Youth guns probably don't nearly undergo the rigor of "tough" use so I'm not sure how accurate that is. I know these guys would disagree, as do I.

Please help.
I bought a new Remington 870 express 3” Magnum with a 28” vented and a 20" short barrel 2 months ago and have had nothing but problems right out of the box.
This gun jambs after just a few (5 or 6) shots. I’ve been shooting skeet with my buddy and it’s frustrating as hell. After the shot the bolt won’t pull back to extract the spent shell except for about 1/16”.
I took it back to the gun store and his gun smith had it for two weeks. It then jammed on the 3rd shot. I took it right back the same day. This time he replaced the barrel. It still jams.

dont like to say this but my 870 after 6 years is haven its first problem, went trap shooting the other day and every so often when i would go to eject a shell it would stick, and couldnt even pump the action open, sometimes i would have to hit the butt of the gun on the ground to eject a shell and sometimes it just took a yank on the forearm to eject the shell, but it would stick maybe like every 10 shells or something, any ideas

my buddy had the same problem a couple years ago.

An 870 is a good gun but not one I'd trust my life with. Growing up we had Brownings and I don't remember ever having any issues. I've had a Benelli for 8 years and have run many round through it and have NEVER had an issue.

They generally retail 400-450ish I believe. I bought mine used from a client starting up a new gun business(well, it's her boyfriends business, she actually seems semi-useless and doesn't know how to spell mossberg lol)

you can find negative remarks about anything on the internet. The 870 has been on the market since 1951 and is the highest selling shotgun in history. The Chinese have copied it.You can spend more on a gun but you wont buy better.

Remington 870

If you want less recoil, Winchester makes a low recoil buckshot and slug. You can shoot those all day without getting a sore shoulder. If there is a zombie apocalypse or some invasion of westbankers, that's what I will have.

I realize the OP said shotguns, but an AR-15 is also an excellent home defense weapon. If you get soft point ammo, it is less likely to go through your walls.

I could find just as many problems with Brownings, Benelli's, and others as the 870. Some models such as the 870 express have a few more less than high quality parts as the "higher" end 870's like the wingmaster and police models. But the 870 is not a problematic gun. There is a reason it has been around so long and compared to pretty much most every pump on the market

Sure you can but I've had all three and speak from experience. I've NEVER had a problem with my Benelli and two of the three Brownings I shot growing up- NEVER. I did, however, have the same issue they discuss with an 870.

That's cause they're cheap. Most people are more interested in how much they have to spend than quality and that goes for more than just guns.

While not a version of the 870, it is based on it,(so slight correction) and it does come in a tactical version, my main advise still stands, best home defense weapon

No, because the tactical version has a 18.5" barrel and a higher capacity mag
