870, magpul stock, extended mag, use a shell with a shot that won't penetrate walls if you live with someone else.

Any 12 gauge, preferably a pump, will be best. The reason for the pump is that if you are in a home invasion situation, many times the sound of a pump shot gun being "pumped" will make the intruder decide he's got other places he need to be right that very instant.

While there is nothing scarier in the dark of night, I am not going to be chambering a round because there should already be one in my chamber. And I sure as frick am not going to be expelling a round just so they can hear the noise. While I agree a pump is good, that is not the reason, in my humble opinion.

I think me shouting "Drop it, fricker!" should suffice.

Buck shot would be better. Any 12 gauge, preferably a pump, will be best. The reason for the pump is that if you are in a home invasion situation, many times the sound of a pump shot gun being "pumped" will make the intruder decide he's got other places he need to be right that very instant. The buck shot is in case you actually have to shoot. Having buckshot instead of a slug means you only have to point in the general direction and have an almost 100% chance at incapacitating the intruder with one shot.

Yes there is recoil but the good part is that you will only need to fire once and then you'll have the rest of your long life to rcover from it's shock.

Exactly what I would have said. Slugs are not nearly as effective for an untrained person in a high stress situation. OO buck on the other hand, !!!! the 'intruder' is in for a world of hurt, soon to be hamburger !

I just picked up this bad boy. Haven't shot it yet, but the muzzle brake is supposed to help with recoil.
Who knows if it actually works, but pretty terrifying at first sight

That is going to be miserable to shoot. The muzzle blast will be unbearable.

Most high powered rifle on the market, make sure you get pmags, if this though. I can get a deal on them for $60 each.
