My son has killed 5 this summer with a 50BMG. Killed 2 with one shot. I batted cleanup with AR15 in .223. I found about 5 bloody spots or drips but no bodies. Disappointed in the .223. I’m about to buy an AR10 in 308. If you are shooting panicked hogs in a field, shot placement needed with .223 is hard.
Every hog I’ve shot with my bolt action .270WSM has dropped in its tracks. Follow up shots are rare with the bolt action for me.
ETA: rare because I can’t find the running hogs in my scope in time after cycling the bolt.
