I live in an apartment and I have a 2 year old beagle. I guess I'm lucky that he doesn't bark or howl as much as I thought he would. It's extremely loud when he does, though. Good dog but not for everyone. They do need space to run. When they are not snooping or playing, they're sleeping.

Got a little beagle 5 weeks ago, she was 5 weeks at the time. She's the smartest dog i've ever seen, but stubborn. She was house trained in 2 weeks, and has not had any accidents in over a week. i think thats fairly amazing. she can already use the doggie door as well.

IN TO EVERYTHING! found her on the kitchen counter yesterday, climbed up the couch, onto the end table, jumped the bar and was going through my wallet. time will tell.

In my opinion Beagles aren't designed to be house dogs and it goes against behavior that characterize them but that's just my .02.

Personally love beagles. They often can be trouble though, mine has been known to go to random hidden spots of the house to use the bathroom like in a closet or in the garage amongst the junk. Also, he enjoys knocking over the trashcan and eating everything in the trash. They don't have a sensor that tell them when they are full so they will eat as much as you let them.

Oh I like beagles too and obviously they CAN be made into house dogs, I just think a person starts off with having to overcome a lot of behaviors inherent to them from the git go.

I swear that my beagle just barks for the hell of it.

Doesn't matter if anything is out in the woods or not. The second she leaves the house you get an instant howl for about 5 seconds.

I have a Beaglier, half-Beagle, half-Cavalier Spaniel. He is a great dog. He lives inside but also has the run of a big yard. I've never had digging problem with him, but he does bay when he's left alone.

If she wants a beagle, get her a beagle.

I have a year and a half old beagle, that stays in/out 50/50. He sleeps inside at night but stays out when we're away. This will be your new shadow... Not the smartest, but super easy to train.

Back to giving the wife what she wants, beagles are hounds... Loud, love to run, love to dig and love to eat. So let her leave her best pair of shoes on the floor, and that little guy can take care of that. They also excel at hiding clothes that are left out. So I consider my beagle to be sharp bc he cleans up the place! Just keep an eye on baseboard corners, beagles love em.

That's my .02.
