Guy I kayak fish with is the same as you, thats all he uses is Kistler. Made in Texas, good quality, good customer service. I think Im gonna go with the carbon steel series rods and Lews reels. Fits my budget and seems like it wont be a headache down the road if anything comes up as far as dealing with the company.

I dont want to mess with a rod that has to be sighted in.
But if you hold it by the rod, it doubles as a club.

Duckett x4, Powell, St. Croix x2, Shimano, Loomis.

Duckett and Powell are my favorite. No problems and have heard great things about both companies customer service.

Shimano Calcutta on a 6'-10" Shimano Sellus worm & jig rod, and old Quantum on some used 5'-6" rod I got from my dad and a Pflueger $39.99 Wal-Mart special on a 5'-6" Ugly Stick that does great with a crank bait.

If you're looking for a rod at $100 I think TFO's are the best deal out there.

I like my old Hammer rods. Local guy in Memphis (Collierville) made them.

I used to be a big GLoomis fan but since Shimano bought them they stopped their lifetime warranty.

I like the Kistlers and will buy them from now on if I need a new rod.

I don't mess with split grips they aren't too good in my opinion

I have a couple split grips I like. I wouldn't prefer them over regular full cork though. And for something like frogs where I sometimes do 2 handed casts or punching I couldn't do it with a split grip.

I disagree split grips are the way to go for increased sensitivity.

I haven't noticed a difference as long as there's a blank through reel seat. I don't hold the cork barely anyway though, I grip around the reel

Reel seat cut out works too. Got to have contact with the blank.

Definitely. I couldn't buy a bass rod with no blank exposed. I usually do 3 fingers in front the trigger pinky behind, hand wrapped around reel and ring finger sitting on rod blank cutout.

I like duckett which are a little more than your budget but get a BPS Pro Qualifier reel, which I consider as good as my Lew's, and use the difference for the higher priced rod.

the grips are just a personal choice, I've grown to really like split grips and much rather them over full cork

All I have used is the split grip, besides fishing years ago with a full cork. I wouldnt know the difference, but guess I have grown accustom to the split grip. I can get $25 off each kistler, bringing the carbon steel to $75/each...dont think I can pass that deal up. Im really just ready to have a dedicated frog rod that i can chunk in the heavy shite and winch it out, and I throw the frog first thing in the morning no matter where im at, so it would save me a few minutes from cutting and re-tying.

I've got several dobyns rods that I really like (bit pricey). Also, have a falcon and a couple of shimanos that are pretty nice for significantly less money.
