Bank fishing St John St James?

Any advise for taking a 10 year old bank fishing in St James/ St John Parish?
Struck out a few times at the St Jame Boat Club. Not trying to load an ice chest, just keep the lad interested. Have access to shiners

As a kid I bank fished off airline highway towards Blind River. Catch so many bream you get tired. Occasionally caught a bass or choupique as well.
