Took my son and his scout troop for their 50 miler patch canoeing on the Buffalo River some 15 years or so ago - pretty country. They used to have an elk herd there also

Wife and I lived in Bull Shoals a couple of years. It was really nice place to live except the pay sucked. I never would have been able to retire if we stayed so we came back.
I wish I would have retired there.

They are still here. Estimated to be at around 450.

They permitted 23 tags this year.

Beautiful year round. My gf lives an hour and a half away from there. The mountains are much better than the beach. I've been to Ponca and the elk are awesome there. They're like cows. You can see them every afternoon there. Amazing country.

Great pics. We’ve rented a lodge at Azalea Falls in that area and did a little hiking.

Just got back from a rental in Hot Springs Village, the nation’s biggest gated community. Sounds like crap, but it’s like a national park. Houses tucked away down cul de sacs and small loops, with lots of woods, lakes, and golf courses. They even have urban hunting licenses to pop some of the many deer.

Worth a look for retirees. Pretty affordable homes with good access to outdoors activities and near enough to Hot Springs and Little Rock.
