Thanks for the link from 2012. Here's some more recent discussion from last summer...

Approximately 10 miles off the Fort Morgan Peninsula in 60 feet of water, the remnants of a 50,000-year-old cypress tree forest lie beneath the Gulf of Mexico. The area is a closely guarded secret by a few divers and anglers and Ben Raines, executive director of the Weeks Bay Foundation, is seeking to permanently protect the area by creating a marine protected zone.
“We envision a protected area where fishing and diving are allowed, and the only thing that will be prohibited is the removal of the ancient wood,” Raines said. “Once we have the protection in place, we’ll release the GPS coordinates to the public so people can fish and dive in the area.”

That's cool. Talk about a mad dash of divers out there when they release those coordinates.

I've never heard about this. There's gonna be a ton haha.
Either way, that dude is handling it pretty admirably. Good way to let other people experience it but make sure it stays protected. You can bet some of those salvage companies offered him a heavy dime to give up those coordinates.

According to a friend that lives down there and has forgotten more about fishing than I'll ever know, there's another set that he has fished.
You'd think there'd be a bunch along the coast huh?
